Hi all, I was just nominated for the Liebster Award by Veena from Venting Thoughts. So firstly, a big thanks, as this is actually the first time I’ve been nominated for one of these… I’ve often seen these awards around the blogging community in the past, and they seem to be a great way to engage with other bloggers and learn more about them, so that sounds good to me!

Firstly the rules of this award are:

1 – Answer the 11 questions that you’ve been asked
2 – Nominate 11 other bloggers
3 – Ask your nominees 11 questions
4 – Let them know you nominated them

Do you like to get clicked or click someone else’s pictures?

I haven’t actually experienced this too much really in all honesty. Most of my pictures aren’t actually links and serve as more of a visual rather than linking around my site. If the question is more do I think pictures are important in making a post successful, and do I like it when good pictures attract people to read my posts, then most definitely yes!

Who is your favourite family member and why?

This is an extremely tough question, as I love my family all in different ways for different reasons… I definitely couldn’t say that I have a favourite family member, but to avoid sounding like a total cop out and not answering the question, I’m very lucky to have a family with very different personalities who have helped me in my life in different ways so they’d be favourite for different things.

If you had a Dinosaur as a pet, what would you name them?

I always like those pet names that sound like people, like a pug called Nigel for example… So maybe I’d call it something very un-dinosaur like, like maybe Alan…. Alan the dinosaur.

If you were in a horror movie, which one would you be, the first one to die or the last one to die?

I always used to end up playing parts in school plays etc, that were the ‘nice guy’ which I always hated. It’s not that it’s bad to be nice, it’s just that firstly, when a character is just described as ‘nice’ they are really difficult to act in an interesting way that’s not just very dull, and also I didn’t want to be the classic friend zone nice guy I always felt I was in my teenage years… So long story short, the ‘nice guy’ in horror movies, usually tries then gets killed near the end in some sort of selfless or stupid way unfortunately, so that would likely be me…

Your favourite Soap or Shower gel?

Definitely a diverse set of questions here… I don’t really have an emotional connection with my soap or shower gel to be honest, it tends to be whatever is on offer and none of them have blown me away. I’ll mix it up trying each different one out, as someone with curly hair I’m yet to meet a shampoo that doesn’t make my hair fluff up, so if that exists please let me know!

Have you watched any Bollywood movie? And if yes, who is your favourtie bollywood actor?

I am ashamed to say I haven’t no… I’m very either mainstream in my film choice, or tend to be into travel documentaries etc. The only ‘world films’, as in other culture films I’ve watched tend to have been French films, like Amelie and The Intouchables, both of which are definitely worth a watch by the way!

If you had to donate any one of your favourite/ personal items, what would you give up?

I’d probably donate one of my acoustic guitars, I have a couple because I like amassing instruments and don’t like selling them. But music has always been a big part of my life, even though I don’t speak about it too much on the blog. I think the gift of music is a great thing, and it would be great to give that to someone.

Which was your favourite subject in school?

Maths, until it became really difficult in senior school. Basically because I was good at it and understood it. I didn’t really have ‘favourite subjects’ though, even with music I much preferred doing my own thing outside of lessons.

What are your opinions on cosmetic surgeries?

I think that sometimes people take it too far, and it’s always such a shame when someone is naturally attractive but doesn’t feel confident in themselves enough, or feels they need to alter themselves in some way. However, each to their own, it’s your money so if you’ve got something you want to change then go for it.

What do you like the most about yourself?

I’ve never actually really thought about this, being naturally someone who tends to talk myself down and can’t deal well with compliments. But probably, it’s that I know where I stand morally and the type of person I want to be, and have managed to do so. As in I want to be a good person and so far in my life have made the choices to stick to my guns and be that person, even through the tough times. I guess like above I used to hate the ‘nice guy’ tag, but I always try to be nice and the older I get the more I realise it’s definitely not a bad thing.

What is your dream job?

My dream job might sound like another cop out. But it’s anything that has the magic combo of being a) something I enjoy, b) something that pays enough, c) something that gives me enough time to enjoy other passions. For example a job that I can do from my laptop for a certain amount of time that allows me to do things like travel, and pursue other hobbies without being too stressed out.

So I hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about me that wouldn’t usually be on the blog. Once again thanks to Veena for nominating me.

The people below (I’m nominating 7 blogs in or around the travel space, rather than the full 11), are people who I either know or that I’ve been engaging with for a while now, who also have great blogs worth checking out.

The people I’d like to nominate are:

Dan – AdventureBorn
Becky – Treasured Travels
Chloe – ChloeVsWorld
Sha – LifeToMyFullest
Bri Ollre – LittleSliceOfBri
HaiHui Story – HaiHui Story
UltimateTravel8 – UltimateTravel

P.S. Don’t worry if you’re any of the above nominated people and don’t have the time to respond to the award, I understand some of you are jetting across the world frequently or otherwise just living very busy lives! If so, it’s all good =).

The questions I’d like to ask are:

  1. What’s the biggest thing you’d like to achieve blogging?
  2. What’s your dream travel destination and why?
  3. How has blogging been different to what you expected?
  4. What book has been the biggest influence on your life?
  5. What famous person do you look up to the most and why?
  6. Other than blogs, where do you get information?
  7. Cats or Dogs?
  8. What’s your guilty pleasure?
  9. If you could go back in time, when would you go to?
  10. Are you a morning or night person?
  11. What’s the question you most often get asked?

So I hope there’s a bit of a mix in there for the nominees. I really look forward to your answers and learning a bit more about you, and thanks everyone for reading.

Thanks for taking an interest in my blog, it’s a pleasure to have you! Here is where can sign up for my monthly newsletter which will keep you updated on all things gilesmeetsworld!
